Holder remains defiant: Contempt vote 'entirely unnecessary' Posted: 20 Jun 2012 02:24 PM PDT Attorney General Eric Holder showed no sign of backing down Wednesday in his escalating battle with House Republicans over his handling of the fallout from the Fast and Furious gun-smuggling investigation. He denounced a House committee's party-line vote to hold him in contempt of Congress as "divisive," "political theater," and "entirely unnecessary." In a defiant statement [...] |

How will the Supreme Court rule in Obama v. Romney? Posted: 20 Jun 2012 11:35 AM PDT The Supreme Court has been at center stage of presidential politics before (cue the ominous music for Democrats as Bush v. Gore flashes on the screen). By the end of next week—and maybe sooner—the Supreme Court will rule on the constitutionality of President Barack Obama's prized domestic achievement, the 2010 health care reform legislation. |

Three outside groups are independently launching multimillion-dollar ad campaigns [...] |

Easter Island’s statues may have been ‘walked’ to their location Posted: 20 Jun 2012 11:29 AM PDT Were the giant statues on Easter Island actually "walked" to their final resting spots? Researchers have unveiled a new theory that may redefine the historical understanding of how natives on Easter Island transported the iconic moai statues. Writing in July's issue of National Geographic magazine, California State University at Long Beach archeologist Carl Lipo and [...] |
‘Carpet of garbage’ covers sea floor in Sydney Posted: 20 Jun 2012 11:14 AM PDT By now, many of us have heard about the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, a pair of massive, swirling islands of floating trash in the Pacific Ocean—one of which is roughly twice the size of Texas. But in Australia's Sydney Harbor, the refuse isn't just floating: It's on the bottom. Groups of volunteers divers are working [...] |
