Train carrying ethanol derails, one car caught fire in Iowa Posted: 04 Feb 2015 04:29 PM PST (Reuters) - Six railway cars carrying ethanol fuel derailed on Wednesday in a remote location north of Dubuque, Iowa, and at least one of them caught on fire, Canadian Pacific railway said. There were no injuries or fatalities in the 11:20 a.m. accident involving an eastbound 81-car freight train, said Jeremy Berry, spokesman for the railway. Berry said information on the crash was still preliminary as access to the location was difficult. He could not confirm reports in the Dubuque Telegraph Herald that three cars had caught on fire and three had fallen into the Mississippi River. |
Three children rescued from padlocked, filthy Washington state home Posted: 04 Feb 2015 02:07 PM PST Three children, including an infant, have been rescued from a crumbling home north of Seattle where they were left without food and surrounded by animal feces, with their parents arrested on suspicion of mistreating them, authorities said on Wednesday. The children, an 11-month-old infant, a 3-year-old and a 7-year-old, were found on Saturday by police investigating a report of possible child neglect at a home in Lake Stevens, a small city near Everett. "It is unknown how long the children were left unattended, but the parents did not show up at the residence and had to be tracked down by investigators," the police statement said. The children were taken to an area hospital where one was treated for hypothermia and dehydration with a core body temperature of 94 degrees Fahrenheit, police said. |
