MOSCOW (AP) — The presidents of France and Russia agreed Thursday to tighten cooperation in the fight against the Islamic State group, although they remained at odds over their approach toward Syrian President Bashar Assad.

The remarks came as Moscow tightened control on the import of Turkish goods and threatened widespread economic retaliation in the wake of a Russian bomber being shot down by Turkish jets and Turkey refused to apologize for the incident. Putin described Turkey's government as "a sponsor of terrorism", saying it profited from the sale of oil by ISIS, and criticized Turkey for refusing to apologize for the shooting down. "We have the impression that the Turkish government is deliberately driving relations with Russia into a dead-end," Putin told a televised gathering of new foreign ambassadors, freshly arrived in Moscow.

Malian special forces arrested two suspects Thursday over a siege at a luxury hotel in the capital Bamako that left 20 people dead, security sources said. "Two suspects linked to the attack last week at the Radisson hotel have just been arrested and they are being interrogated," one of the sources told AFP. The identity of the suspects and their alleged role in Friday's jihadist attack on the 190-room Radisson Blu hotel was not immediately known.

President Barack Obama sought to reassure Americans on Wednesday they were safe to travel over the holiday.. Police, who were patrolling in record numbers, arrested a 41-year-old Russian tourist for flying a drone in Central Park near the parade route with his son, 14. Police walked alongside many parade groups and helicopters hovered overhead amid enhanced security following the Nov. 13 attacks in Paris.

Man who jumped White House fence facing charges: Secret Service

A man who jumped the White House fence on Thursday, triggering a lockdown of the presidential mansion, was quickly caught and now faces criminal charges, the U.S. Secret Service said. Joseph Caputo scaled the north fence line of the White House grounds at around 2:45 p.m. and was immediately apprehended, the Secret Service said in a statement. The White House was locked down as the Secret Service conducted a security sweep of the area, and nearby streets were closed off, ABC News and The Washington Post reported earlier.

Newly released police dashboard camera videos from the scene of the shooting of a black teenager by a white Chicago patrolman could raise fresh questions over documentation of the killing, as the city braced for an organized protest march on Friday. Audio and video should be automatically activated on the cameras, according to police department policy. Van Dyke on Tuesday became the first Chicago police officer in decades to be charged with murder for on-duty use of lethal force and is in jail pending a second bond hearing on Monday.
