Michelle Obama explains her iconic side-eye at Trump's inauguration

Michelle Obama explains her iconic side-eye at Trump's inaugurationAlright, alright internet — settle down. We've had our fun. We've imagined all the things that could have been going through Michelle Obama's head on Trump's inauguration day. We've memed the hell out of the gift-giving photos. Now it's time to accept the truth. The former first lady explained at the American Institute of Architects convention Monday that - though it really, really appeared so (and we loved it) - she actually was not trying to shade the Trump family on inauguration day. Let's quickly take a look at the not shade: SEE ALSO: These Michelle Obama memes are the internet's coping mechanism the only good moment of this inauguration is michelle jim-facing the camera like "why did she give me this box" pic.twitter.com/WoGAWfKS0l — jomny sun (@jonnysun) January 20, 2017 michelle is all of us for the next 4 years pic.twitter.com/jurAn0zMz0 — joshy (@acidictly) January 20, 2017 Michelle's face pic.twitter.com/UYrcfAfm3t — The Office (@OfficeScenes) January 20, 2017 So what was really going on? The former FLOTUS explained that the beginning of the inauguration marked the final moments that her teenage daughters, Sasha and Malia, would have in the White House - the home in which they've largely grown up. Instead of shading Melania Trump's oddly timed gift, Obama was simply trying to hold it together on a tough day for her family. "That moment of transition, right before the doors opened and we welcomed in the new family," Obama explained, "Our kids were leaving out the back door in tears, saying goodbye to people." Taking it in on one last walk through the People's House.  A post shared by Michelle Obama (archived) (@michelleobama44) on Jan 18, 2017 at 9:55am PST "I didn't want to have tears in my eyes because people would swear I was crying because of the new president," Obama added. (She's probably not wrong.) Though the family was sad to leave their home of eight years, Obama heartbreakingly reiterated that she has no desire to run for office in 2020. "I wouldn't ask my children to do this again," she said. Michelle, please just let us dream. WATCH: Trump thought being president would be easier than being a reality star businessman

Same-sex couple can seek damages from Kentucky clerk: U.S. appeals courtA federal appeals court on Tuesday revived a damages lawsuit against Kim Davis, the Kentucky county clerk who in 2015 refused to grant marriage licenses to same-sex couples because it conflicted with her Christian beliefs. The 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati said a lower court judge erred in finding that damages claims by David Ermold and David Moore became moot, after a new state law last July excused clerks like Davis, from Rowan County, from having to sign marriage license forms. While the couple eventually did get a license, a three-judge appeals court panel said they could sue over Davis' initial refusal to grant one, after the U.S. Supreme Court in June 2015 said the Constitution guaranteed a right to same-sex marriage.

Barack Obama tweets at Jimmy Kimmel after his moving speech about the ACAWell this is touching. After his incredibly moving opening monologue last night about his newborn son's open heart surgery and his support for the Affordable Care Act, late night host Jimmy Kimmel got a tweet from the man who made it happen, former President Barack Obama.  SEE ALSO: That awkward moment when Republicans failed to kill Obamacare but they bought boastful TV ads anyway and now they're airing, LOL In case you haven't seen the monologue (and truly, it's a must-watch), Kimmel reveals that his son was born with a heart defect that required emergency open heart surgery. After thanking the wonderful doctors and nurses who saved his son's life, Kimmel talked to his audience about the incredible importance of the ACA. "If your baby is going to die and it doesn't have to - it shouldn't matter how much money you make," the tearful host said. "I think that's something that whether you're a Republican or Democrat or something else, we all agree on that." "No parent should ever have to decide if they can afford to save their child's life...it just shouldn't happen," he pleaded. Obama, seeing Kimmel's impassioned speech (which, again is a must-watch), responded in a tweet Tuesday afternoon.  Well said, Jimmy. That's exactly why we fought so hard for the ACA, and why we need to protect it for kids like Billy. And congratulations! https://t.co/77F8rZrD3P — Barack Obama (@BarackObama) May 2, 2017 Like Kimmel said, let's take care of each other.
