The man, who has not been named, was arrested on suspicion of committing, preparing or instigating an act of terrorism after Friday's attack in which 30 people were injured at Parsons Green station. "The best weapon against any enemy is love and prayer," Uzhunnalil said at a press conference in Rome after an intervention by the authorities in Oman to secure his release. Muscat said Tuesday that it had "coordinated with Yemeni parties" to mediate the release of Uzhunnalil, a Salesian priest who had last appeared in a video circulated online in December 2016, in which he appealed to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pope Francis to secure his release. |

More Florida Keys residents return home to survey Irma's destruction Posted: 16 Sep 2017 03:01 PM PDT By Carlo Allegri KEY LARGO, Fla. (Reuters) - More residents who had fled the Florida Keys ahead of Hurricane Irma were allowed to return to their homes on Saturday, as authorities prepared to reopen Key West at the end of the devastated archipelago on Sunday. As Florida struggled to return to normal after the powerful storm struck this week, Governor Rick Scott ordered all nursing homes in the state to obtain emergency generators. The order followed the deaths of eight elderly people this week at a sweltering nursing home north of Miami that lost power. |

The Missouri city's police department said that nine officers had been injured and one was taken to hospital after an injury sustained from a thrown brick. Protesters also broke windows at the house of St Louis' Mayor Lyda Krewson, and damaged the city's public library, before riot police dispersed the crowd with tear gas and pepper balls. |
About 1.5 million, mostly in Florida, without power in Irma's wake Posted: 15 Sep 2017 03:34 PM PDT About 1.5 million homes and businesses in Florida and Georgia remained without power on Friday after Hurricane Irma, including 46 of Florida's nearly 700 nursing homes caught in the deadly storm's path. Irma, which ranked as one of the most powerful Atlantic storms on record before striking the U.S. mainland as a Category 4 hurricane on Sept. 10, killed at least 84 people. Florida Power & Light, owned by NextEra Energy Inc and the state's biggest electric company, said it was working aggressively to restore power to the 23 percent of its customers still in the dark. |

Harvard revokes Chelsea Manning fellowship invitation after criticism Posted: 15 Sep 2017 08:22 AM PDT Harvard University revoked convicted US intelligence leaker and transgender activist Chelsea Manning's visiting fellowship position on Friday after sharp criticism from the Central Intelligence Agency. Dean Douglas Elmendorf of the prestigious Harvard Kennedy School of Government said naming Manning as one of 12 new visiting fellows "was a mistake," after CIA Director Mike Pompeo accused the university of honoring a "traitor" and cancelled a speaking appearance on Thursday. Pompeo's move followed former CIA acting director Mike Morrell's announcement that he was stepping down as a senior fellow at The Belfer Center, part of the Kennedy School, for the same reason. |

How to Protect Your Credit in the Wake of the Equifax Breach Posted: 15 Sep 2017 10:19 AM PDT For anyone who takes protecting their credit score and identity seriously, the news was probably like getting a punch in the gut. As you've no doubt heard, Equifax, one of the nation's largest credit bureaus, was hacked -- it is believed that 143 million American consumers' personal information was exposed to online criminals. During that time, hackers were able to collect people's names, Social Security numbers, birthdates, addresses and even, for some people, driver's license numbers. |

Spain tightens control over Catalan spending as tensions soar Posted: 15 Sep 2017 11:49 AM PDT Spain's central government launched its latest salvo against Catalonia on Friday, tightening control over regional spending and brushing aside a last-ditch separatist demand for dialogue to allow a banned referendum. Maybe some have not noticed, and it would be best if they noticed, Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy told a meeting of his conservative Popular Party in Barcelona. State authorities have piled pressure on Catalonia, threatening to arrest mayors if they facilitate the referendum and ordering police to seize any item that could be used in the vote in a region sharply divided over whether it wants independence. |
