Mueller report finds no evidence that Trump campaign colluded with Russia: Justice Department Posted: 24 Mar 2019 03:57 PM PDT In a major political victory for Trump, who quickly hailed the announcement as "complete and total exoneration," Mueller's nearly two years of investigation ended with a finding that no one in Trump's campaign "conspired or coordinated with the Russian government," according to a summary of Mueller's findings. The long-awaited report into whether Trump's campaign colluded with Russia to help the Republican defeat his Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton, marked a major milestone of his presidency as he prepares for his 2020 re-election battle. Mueller himself did not reach a conclusion on whether Trump broke the law by interfering with the various probes into the 2016 election that have cast a pall over his presidency, but presented his evidence to Barr to make a determination. |

Five killed as clashes erupt in Yemen's Hodeida Posted: 25 Mar 2019 07:01 AM PDT Clashes in Yemen's Hodeida have left five fighters dead, medical and military sources said Monday, despite a ceasefire agreement between warring parties in the port city. Fighting between Yemen's armed rebels, known as the Huthis, and pro-government forces erupted late Sunday in the eastern part of the city, a military official told AFP. Speaking on condition of anonymity, a doctor at Hodeida's main hospital said medics had received the bodies of three rebel fighters. |

Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou was carrying an iPhone when she was arrested last year Posted: 25 Mar 2019 01:42 PM PDT The tech industry certainly has its share of scandals, but the drama surrounding Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou certainly takes things to the next level. This past December, Wanzhou was arrested in Canada (at the behest of the United States) on charges of wire fraud and improper business dealings with Iran. Wanzhou may ultimately be extradited to the U.S. as China, not surprisingly, has vehemently denied the allegations on Wanzhou's behalf. As Huawei executives would have you believe, the charges are simply a means to hinder the company's growth. The legal case involving Wanzhou is still playing out, but recently released court documents include a surprising revelation regarding the gear Wanzhou had in her possession when she was arrested. Originally made public by the Twitter account theBreakerNews, it turns out that Wanzhou had a penchant for Apple products.Upon her arrest, Wanzhou had a MacBook Air, an iPad Pro, and an iPhone 7 Plus in her possession. She was also carrying a Huawei Mate RS Porsche Design which was likely her primary device. Still, it has to be somewhat embarrassing for an executive of a company looking to dethrone Apple to be apprehended with a slew of Apple products. No you might be naturally thinking: "So she had a few Apple products on her, what's the big deal?" Well, if we go back just a few months, you may recall that two Huawei employees who were manning the company's Twitter account were demoted after they sent out a celebratory New Years tweet from an iPhone. The tweet was promptly deleted once word began to spread, but the higher-ups at Huawei were quite displeased and also cut the salary of the employees in question.Further, an internal Huawei memo obtained by Reuters at the time revealed that Huawei executives believed "the incident caused damage to the Huawei brand."All that said, Wanzho's penchant for Apple products isn't a good look. |

'It was like Woodstock': inside the town hit by super bloom mania Posted: 23 Mar 2019 10:00 PM PDT An influx of visitors, eager for Instagram fodder, prompted Lake Elsinore's mayor to shut down access to a flower-covered canyon A crowd poses for a selfie among the wild poppies blooming in Walker Canyon in Lake Elsinore. Photograph: Gregory Bull/AP The town of Lake Elsinore sits at the edge of a canyon newly bursting with color. Fields of poppies, lupins and other wildflowers spill across hillsides – usually covered with brown, scrubby plants – as though poured from a bucket of paint. In the last few weeks, large swaths of southern California have been transformed into a colorful canvas of flowers. This type of "super bloom" has happened before, but this year is especially intense – an unusually wet winter following years of drought, combined with the aftermath of a brutal wildfire season, has set the stage for what many predicted would be the best bloom in years. But the pretty picture has a dark side: the hordes of super bloom tourists overwhelming small towns without the infrastructure to handle the sudden influx. This season, Lake Elsinore has become the poster child for the super bloom tourist invasion. On a recent Sunday, the town more than doubled in population, bloated with an estimated 100,000 visitors hungry to see the flowers. "It was like Woodstock," says the city's mayor, Steve Manos. "An absolute apocalyptic scenario." Manos, a second-term mayor with a gap between his teeth and a warm smile, has a good sense of humor about the ridiculous situation he's found himself in, where fury over the influx of tourists has prompted some residents of his town to threaten – albeit, maybe in jest – to burn the fields of poppies to the ground. Speaking from his modest office, a whiteboard covered with traffic-planning scribbles hung on one wall, Manos lays out how his town's poppy fields went viral – attracting Instagram influencers and even celebrities such as Michael Jackson's son, Prince Jackson. "It became a social media frenzy," he says. The fields of poppies in Lake Elsinore attracted crowds including Instagram influencers and even celebrities. Photograph: Gregory Bull/AP The mayor has become an unsuspecting celebrity in his own right. A Facebook and Instagram video of Manos standing in front of the canyon, cheerily pleading for the crowds to stop coming to Lake Elsinore was widely shared, and also ignored. Last Sunday's influx of visitors at Walker Canyon, about five miles from the city center, brought traffic to a halt on the freeway and on the streets of the city. Poppy tourists began leaving their cars on the shoulder of the road, climbing over the guard rail, and walking directly into the canyon. The city scrambled to provide enough shuttle buses and parking for the masses. Manos says they eventually made the call to shut down access to the canyon over public safety concerns. Clearing the mountainside was nearly impossible, he says, but officials did their best by shutting down freeway off ramps. "It was a terrible scenario," Manos says. Since then, the canyon has reopened, with the local transit authority intermittently closing and re-opening certain freeway exits. But the unpredictable situation hasn't deterred visitors. On a recent weekday, while the streets of Lake Elsinore are mostly empty, Walker Canyon is buzzing with a mix of families and hip young people. Liann Walker, 44, brought her son to see the flowers. She home schools him, and says the super bloom is an educational opportunity. "I told him it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience," she says. "It didn't matter how many people were here, we were gonna come." The entrance to the canyon, a narrow dirt road just spitting distance from the freeway, has become a busy thoroughfare choked with traffic and snaking lines of parked cars. Local officials strung up makeshift fences along the canyon trail in the form of fluorescent pink and yellow police tape. But visitors seem unencumbered by the barrier, cheerfully stepping off the dirt path to take pictures with the flowers and pluck poppies to place behind their ears. Despite a chill in the air, fashionably-dressed visitors traipse up the canyon in summer dresses and sandals. Renee LeGrand takes a picture among blooming wildflowers in Lake Elsinore. Photograph: Gregory Bull/AP Bettzaira Hernandez, 20, came for the selfies. She says she saw the super bloom on Instagram, "so I dragged my boyfriend to take pictures of me". Her boyfriend stands beside her, holding a poppy in his hands. "I picked it for my girlfriend," he says sheepishly. Hernandez says they'd heard about the crowds over the weekend, and empathized with the locals. "But then again, they're not gonna stop us, there's way too much of us, so we might as well just come," she says. This super bloom is one of the most intense in recent memory, mostly thanks to the drought, which was declared officially over this year. Wildflowers used to bloom across the state but were pushed out by European grasses about 100 years ago, explained Richard Minnich, a professor in the earth sciences department of the University of California, Riverside. "Drought is our friend when it comes to wildflowers," he said. "When we have wet years the area gets dominated by these grasses, which choke out the flowers. And the way you get rid of the grasses is through an extreme drought." While there are plenty of places for tourists to see the super bloom – Palm Springs, the Borrego Desert, Joshua Tree, Carrizo Plain – it's Lake Elsinore that's been hit with the lion's share, though no one knows exactly why. Manos blamed a combination of traditional media and Instagram. "Local media picked [it] up. And then it went international." Manos paused. "And then it went up online," he said gravely. For some locals, the experience has been taxing. Samantha Tapia, an 18-year-old resident, is fed up with the traffic, and with people "taking nude pictures in the flowers". The location tag for Lake Elsinore on Instagram – usually filled with photos from local businesses or community organizations – has been transformed. "Now it's just poppies, people, and nudes," Tapia says. Wild poppies blanket the hills of Walker Canyon near Lake Elsinore. Photograph: Mario Tama/Getty Images The situation has sparked a debate in town about increasing tourism, an important pillar of the platform that got Manos elected as mayor. "Lake Elsinore is very small," says Tapia while standing in the parking lot of the local outlet mall with her friend, Adriana Vasquez, also 18. "I don't want Lake Elsinore to grow," Vasquez chimes in. "I like the no traffic and getting places quick." Yet other residents remain unphased. Dina Thaler, who owns a gift shop, says that even though her shop in the city center is several miles from Walker Canyon, on the biggest poppy days the number of customers coming in has tripled. "Whatever we get, we love," she says. Residents like Thaler will be pleased to learn the super bloom is likely to continue for weeks. As for the immediate crisis, Manos has chosen a middle-of-the-road approach: gently, graciously imploring people to go elsewhere. The city has placed a warning about super bloom crowds, emblazoned in orange, on every page of its official website. A list of other places to see the super bloom sits at the top of the city's Instagram page. But people just keep coming – in ever increasing numbers. "This Monday was worse than the last Monday," Manos says. "Tuesday was worse than the last Tuesday." He's not sure what to expect this weekend, but he's preparing for the worst. |
May Faces Endgame as U.K. Leader Is Losing Control of Brexit Posted: 25 Mar 2019 12:55 AM PDT Theresa May will face up to her own desperately weak political position on Monday as members of Parliament move to take over Brexit policy and her own ministers plot to oust her. The U.K. prime minister is under pressure from colleagues inside her Cabinet to name a date when she will step down, with some arguing this would help her win support for her Brexit deal, people familiar with the matter said. May is hoping for one more chance to put the divorce agreement she's negotiated with the European Union to a vote in the House of Commons this week. |

GLOBAL MARKETS-World stocks slide on economy concerns, U.S. yields drop Posted: 25 Mar 2019 10:31 AM PDT World stocks sold off for a second straight session on Monday on persistent concerns over global economic growth, while benchmark 10-year U.S. Treasury yields fell to more than one-year lows. MSCI's gauge of stocks across the globe shed 0.47 percent, after it posted on Friday its biggest one-day drop in about three months. Investors were still digesting weak U.S. factory data last week that prompted an inversion of the U.S. Treasury yield curve, which is widely seen as an indicator of an economic recession. |
Apple rethinks the credit card and unveils the Apple Card Posted: 25 Mar 2019 10:29 AM PDT As far as Apple events go, today's "Show Time" event is particularly intriguing, if not downright exciting. While events like WWDC are predictable in the sense that we know we're going to see updates to iOS and watchOS, Apple today is poised to announce a number of new initiatives in markets it historically has no experience in, including news subscriptions and TV production. While Apple can undoubtedly make killer hardware and best-in-class software, the notion of Apple rolling out its own TV shows, for example, is something that would have seemed like a joke even a few years ago. Suffice it to say, today's Apple event marks an interesting turning point for the company. The keynote from today's event is already underway and Tim Cook, having already introduced Apple News Plus, just a few moments ago starting talking about Apple Pay. Notably, Cook said that there were 10 billion transactions in 2019 alone and that Apple Pay support at transit terminals will be coming soon. All of that was a prelude, though, to Tim Cook introducing a brand new credit card dubbed Apple Card. The card is made out of titanium with an accompanying app that resides inside the Wallet app. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HAZiE9NtRfs As for what Apple Card brings to the table, users can sign up for it right on their iPhone and can start using it in just a few minutes. The card presents a rather straight forward interface that allows users to keep track of how much they owe how much they've spent, and more. Apple notes: > Customers can sign up for Apple Card in the Wallet app on their iPhone in minutes and start using it with Apple Pay right away in stores, in apps or online worldwide. Apple Card gives customers easy-to-understand, real-time views of their latest transactions and balance right in Wallet, and Apple Card support is available 24/7 by simply sending a text from Messages.Every time you use the Apple Card, you'll get 2% cash back immediately back into your account. It will all be funneled into a section on the app called Daily Cash. Further, if you buy an Apple product, you get 3% cash back. > Customers will receive a percentage of every Apple Card purchase amount back as Daily Cash. Unlike other cash back rewards, Daily Cash is added to customers' Apple Cash card each day and can be used right away for purchases using Apple Pay, to put toward their Apple Card balance or send to friends and family in Messages. Every time customers use Apple Card with Apple Pay, they will receive 2 percent Daily Cash. Customers will also get 3 percent Daily Cash on all purchases made directly with Apple, including at Apple Stores, on the App Store and for Apple services. With Apple Card, Apple is also aiming to be more transparent about the fees and high interest rates associated with other cards. In fact, Apple is doing away with late fees, annual fees, international fees, and over limit fees altogether. Apple boasts that it will charge users a uniquely low-interest rate and that users won't incur a penalty when they miss a payment. Apple notes that its goal is to provide an interest rate that is "among the lowest in the industry." Apple Card will also present users with a number of payment options designed to help users pay less interest. > As a way to pay less interest, Apple Card will also suggest paying a bit more every month and offers the flexibility to schedule more frequent payments."Apple Card is designed with privacy in mind," Apple's Jennifer Bailey said. With that said, Apple will never know what you bought or where you bought it. Apple, as previously rumored, will be partnering with Goldman Sachs to help launch the card, with MasterCard doing the payment processing on the back-end. The physical card is also intriguing in its own right. It has no card number on it, no CVV security code on the back, and not even an expiration date. All of that information is safely stored in the accompanying Wallet app. Notably, purchases made with the physical card will net users 1% cash back instead of 2% if they use their device. |

U.S. calls Russia deployment of planes to Venezuela 'reckless escalation' Posted: 25 Mar 2019 02:04 PM PDT The Russian planes and military personnel arrived outside the Venezuelan capital Caracas on Saturday, according to local media reports, two months after the Trump administration disavowed President Nicolas Maduro. Washington has recognized opposition leader Juan Guaido as the country's legitimate president and demands that Maduro leave power, which Russia has described as a U.S.-backed coup against the socialist government. "The United States condemns Russia's deployment of military aircraft and personnel to Caracas, which is another contradiction of both Nicolas Maduro's and Russia's calls for non-intervention in Venezuela and is a reckless escalation of the situation," a State Department spokesman said on condition of anonymity. |

Trump may be celebrating the Mueller report, but scrutiny of the president is far from over Posted: 25 Mar 2019 10:20 AM PDT Donald Trump has declared that he has been completely exonerated by special counsel Robert Mueller in the investigation into whether he was the Muscovian candidate for the White House in the last presidential election. It would be fully understandable for Trump to be popping a champagne cork or three if he were a drinking man. Trump's critics, the number of which has steadily grown in the course of his extraordinary tenure, had hoped that the special counsel would hand what would essentially be a death sentence to what they consider a malign and toxic presidency, the worst in America's recent history. |

Apple News+ is a $9.99 subscription service for magazines and newspapers Posted: 25 Mar 2019 10:17 AM PDT Apple's "show time" event kicked off at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET today, and Tim Cook has taken the stage. While we are excited to see what Apple has in store for the world of streaming entertainment, the first announcement today is about Apple News. As expected, Apple is making use of its acquisition of Texture's magazine subscription service and add magazines to its new service, which it has dubbed Apple News+. Over 300 magazines will be featured in Apple News+, such as National Geographic, The New Yorker, and Vanity Fair, and more. In addition to magazines, the service will also feature some of the world's top newspapers, including the Los Angeles Times and The Wall Street Journal. Apple News+ will cost $9.99/month. All of the premium content can be found in the new News+ tab, which lives at the bottom of the Apple News app. You can save your favorite magazines as well, so that you won't ever miss a new issue. Apple also showed off covers with moving images, and demonstrated how the magazines have been successfully ported to both the small screen of the iPhone and the larger display of the iPad. Apple also announced that it will not share demographic or subscriber information with publishers, which explains why some major names didn't make the cut. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Im5c5WR9vMQ As Apple explained during its keynote, it would cost more than $8,000 to subscribes every magazine and newspaper in Apple News+ separately. This is "the only place" where you can pay for access to all of them, plus, you can share your subscription with your family, so you won't all have to pay for your own accounts. And the first month is free. Apple News+ will be available in the US and Canada first, and reach Australia and the UK in the fall. If you want to try out Apple News+, you'll be able to do so later today after an iOS update rolls out. |

Cardholders will earn 2 percent cash back on all purchases made using their phones or 3 percent cash back on Apple products. |

Posted: 25 Mar 2019 10:02 AM PDT Israel launched strikes on Hamas targets in Gaza on Monday hours after a rocket from the Palestinian enclave hit a house near Tel Aviv and wounded seven people, leading to fears of a severe escalation. The retaliatory strikes began around the same time as Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli Prime Minister, held a joint press conference with US President Donald Trump in Washington. Mr Netanyahu addressed the attack during the White House press conference, saying: "Israel will not tolerate this. I will not tolerate this. And as we speak ... Israel is responding forcefully to this wanton aggression." The on-camera appearance ended with Mr Trump signing a decree formally recognising Israel's sovereignty over the Golan Heights, a territory which Israel seized from Syria in the 1967 Middle East war. The move, which formalises a commitment Mr Trump made last week, appeared to give Mr Netanyahu a boost ahead of the closely contested April 9 Israeli elections. The two leaders show off a proclamation recognising Israel's sovereignty over the Golan Heights Credit: Reuters Condemning the attack from Gaza, Mr Trump said Israel has the "absolute right" to defend itself. "Today, aggressive action by Iran and terrorist groups in southern Syria, including Hezbollah, continue to make the Golan Heights a potential launching ground for attacks against Israel - very violent attacks," Mr Trump said. "This should have been done numerous presidents ago". Speaking from the White House, the Israeli leader told Mr Trump "Israel has never had a better friend than you". Mr Netanyahu said he would cut short his US visit and return home after his meeting with Mr Trump to deal with the aftermath of the Tel Aviv attack. The flare-up comes at a highly sensitive time for Israel, which holds elections on April 9. The attack on Gaza has so far involved at least six strikes, including five in and around Gaza City and one in southern Gaza between Rafah and Khan Yunis, according to an Israeli security source. There are no reports so far of any casualties in Gaza. A police officer inspects the damage to a house hit by a rocket in Mishmeret, central Israel Credit: AP Earlier on Monday, a rocket from Gaza hit a house in Mishmeret, around 12 miles north of Tel Aviv, in a rare long-distance strike. Seven Israelis were injured lightly by burns and shrapnel in the attack, including a six-month-old child. Six of them were members of the same British-Israeli family. Rocket fire from Gaza at that distance is rare, the rocket would have had to travel some 75 miles. Israel's army said the rocket was fired by Hamas, the Islamist movement that runs the Gaza Strip, from the Rafah area. A Hamas official has denied the group was behind the rocket, evoking the possibility it was caused by "bad weather". But Israel warned of a firm response and announced it was sending two additional brigades to reinforce the Gaza area and carrying out a limited call up of reservists. Israel's military said in a statement it "has begun striking Hamas terror targets throughout the Gaza Strip." |

Trump Officially Recognizes Golan Heights as Israeli Territory Posted: 25 Mar 2019 11:34 AM PDT President Trump on Monday signed an order recognizing Israel's sovereignty over the Golan Heights, abruptly shifting long-standing U.S. policy on the matter."We're celebrating the Golan Heights. It's something that I've been hearing about for many years," Trump said during remarks to reporters at the White House alongside Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu. "This should have been done, I would say, numerous presidents ago, but for some reason they didn't do it, and I'm very honored to have done it."Israel has held the Golan for 52 years since capturing it from Syria in the 1967 Six-Day War. About 20,000 Israelis and 20,000 Syrians live in the territory, whose 1981 annexation by Israel was not recognized internationally. The disputed land remains a fraught issue in Middle East politics; Syria attacked Trump's decision as "a blatant attack on its sovereignty" and threatened to recapture the region "through all available means."Trump's move is a political boon for Netanyahu, coming two weeks before hotly contested national elections on April 9. The prime minister, damaged by corruption charges and facing a stiff challenge from the centrist former IDF general Benny Gantz, has for months has called on the U.S. to recognize the territory as part of Israel."Your proclamation comes at a time when Golan is more important than ever for our security," the prime minister said. "Israel won the Golan Heights in a just war of self-defense and the Jewish people's roots in the Golan go back thousands of years."Trump similarly recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel in 2017, calling it "a long overdue step to advance the peace process." |

The 5 most important announcements from Apple’s big event Posted: 25 Mar 2019 11:47 AM PDT For Apple fans, today's big "It's Show Time" event wasn't exactly the most hotly anticipated Apple press conference in recent history. In fact, it might not even crack the top 10. But for Apple, today's event carries a tremendous amount of weight. For the past decade, Apple has made the lion's share of its money selling hardware products. Specifically, the iPhone line and its sky-high profit margins are the reason Apple is the most profitable consumer electronics company in history. But as we've seen in recent years, iPhone growth simply isn't sustainable — big smartphone markets are already saturated and people are keeping their phones longer than ever because it's so expensive to upgrade these days. That's a big part of the reason that Apple is turning to services as the company explores new ways to foster growth. Today we got our first look at the new services Apple hopes will carry the company's media efforts into the future. We can't say anything Apple announced during Monday's press conference came as much of a surprise considering all of the leaks and reports from the past few weeks. That said, we finally know all of the particulars regarding Apple's upcoming new streaming entertainment and news services, and there's plenty to unpack. In this post, however, we'll unpack it all as we cover the five most important announcements from the Steve Jobs theater in Cupertino, California on Monday. Apple News+Apple on Monday announced a huge revamp to the Apple News product. What was once merely a news aggregator app is now evolving into a one-stop shop for all sorts of journalism called Apple News+. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Im5c5WR9vMQ First, Apple is adding magazines and digital subscriptions to Apple News. Time, Vogue, People, National Geographic, Popular Science, Billboard, The New Yorker, Sports Illustrated, Fortune, and New York Magazine are just some of the popular magazines that will be featured in the new Apple News+ hub. New issues of subscribed magazines and newspapers are downloaded automatically in the background, and more than 300 magazines will be included in the service at launch, as well as newspapers like The Wall Street Journal and The Los Angeles Times. Apple News+ costs $9.99 per month, which includes unlimited content sources and family sharing. The new service is available beginning immediately. Apple CardApple's second big announcement during today's show is a brand new service called Apple Card, which is backed by Goldman Sachs and Mastercard. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HAZiE9NtRfs The company says it has completely rethought the credit card with its new Apple Card product. It's a credit card, but you can sign up in the Wallet app on your iPhone and get your card virtually right away. Balance information and payment details are all accessible in the Wallet app, and Apple even provides Apple Card customer support through the Messages app. Apple Card uses machine learning and Apple Maps to translate conventional vendor transaction details to actual business names that are more recognizable. There are a number of tools included as well that are aimed at helping users track their spending. As for rewards, Apple has introduced a new "Daily Cash" feature that gives users cash back on a daily basis. Money is added to an Apple Cash card in the wallet app automatically, and the cash back rate is 2% for all purchases except for purchases made from Apple, which earn 3% cash back. Apple Card in the Wallet app offers several tools designed to reduce the amount of interest you pay, such as a real cost calculator and multiple payments per month. There are also no fees with the Apple Card, including no late fees and no over limit fees. Each Apple Card customer will also get a physical titanium card for locations where Apple Pay isn't accepted. Purchases made with the physical card only get 1% cash back. The Apple Card will launch in the US sometime this summer. Apple ArcadeRumors suggested Apple would be announcing a new gaming service during its event on Monday, and indeed it did. The new service is called Apple Arcade, and it's a new way to deliver video games to users. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=95FuVib8mcY Apple Arcade offers financial backing to studios for the development of games that will be exclusive to Apple Arcade, and they'll be playable on mobile devices, computers, and on Apple TV. Apple Arcade subscriptions offer unlimited access to all games in the library, and it will launch with more than 100 titles available from day one. A new Arcade tab in the App Store will provide access to Apple Arcade, and all games will work on iPhones, iPads, and Mac computers, as well as on the Apple TV. No games will be permitted to display any ads, and no games will be allowed to include in-app purchases. Apple Arcade will launch in more than 150 countries this fall, and pricing for the subscription hasn't yet been announced. Apple TV ChannelsThe biggest news from today's press conference is a new a la carte TV subscription service that lets you pay only for the channels you want to watch. Apple TV Channels will live inside the Apple TV app, and users only pay for the channels to which they would like to subscribe. All content is also available on demand, of course, and the redesigned Apple TV app will also be home to streaming TV services from cable providers and similar offerings like PlayStation Vue. The redesigned Apple TV app will also provide live scores from sporting events, and it'll be a portal for movies and TV shows you purchase in iTunes. A unified "Up Next" section in the app shows new episodes of all your favorite TV shows as they become available, to ensure you never miss a show. Hulu and Prime Video content is also available through the new Apple TV app. It's designed as a one-stop shop for all of the streaming entertainment you watch. The new Apple TV app will available on Apple TV boxes, iPad, and iPhone beginning in May, and it'll come as part of an iOS update. It'll also be made available on macOS beginning this fall, and there will be a version made available for smart TVs (including Samsung, Sony, and Vizio), Roku devices, and Fire TV devices. Apple TV+In addition to the new Apple TV Channels product, Apple finally announced its original programming initiative. Dubbed Apple TV+, Apple is dumping some serious cash into original shows and movies created by and starring some of the biggest names in Hollywood. Brie Larson, Bill Murray, Steven Spielberg, J. J. Abrams, Octavia Spencer, Steve Carell, M. Night Shyamalan, Jennifer Aniston, Ron Howard, and Reese Witherspoon are just some of the big names involved with projects that are currently in production. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RrdbT4hpwBk Steven Spielberg will be rebooting Amazing Stories for Apple TV+, an anthology series from the mid 1980s. Jennifer Aniston, Steve Carell, and Reese Witherspoon will star in The Morning Show, a show that analyzes the inner workings of a fictitious morning new show. Jason Momoa will star in a new show called See, a show about a world where only a few million survivors lived through a cataclysmic event, and they were all blind. Kumail Nanjiani is making a series called Little America, a collection of immigrant stories in the United States based on true events. J. J. Abrams and Sara Bareilles are joining to create a series called Romantic Voice, a show about a young woman trying to make it in the New York music scene. There's also a new preschool show about using coding (yes, coding!) to solve problems. It's called Helpsters and it features characters from Sesame Street. There's also one more personality you may have heard of who's on board to create two documentaries and a new Book Club interview series for Apple TV+: Oprah. Apple TV+ will be available in the new Apple TV app beginning this fall. It will be an ad-free subscription service, but pricing hasn't yet been announced. |
