Trump Uses RNC Funds To Pay For His Russia Defense -- Thanks To Hillary Clinton's Lawyer Posted: 20 Sep 2017 03:43 PM PDT WASHINGTON ― President Donald Trump, a billionaire, is reportedly using money raised by the Republican National Committee to cover legal fees associated with the Department of Justice investigation into his 2016 presidential campaign. Trump has used over $230,000 in money raised by the RNC for his own legal defense, according to Reuters. The president is currently under investigation for potential illegal coordination with Russia ― which is alleged to have hacked the Democratic National Committee and intervened in the election to defeat Hillary Clinton ― and for possible obstruction of justice when he fired James Comey, the former FBI director, in May. |

Greenpeace boards ship in bid to halt delivery of UK-bound VW diesel cars Posted: 21 Sep 2017 08:59 AM PDT By Costas Pitas LONDON (Reuters) - Greenpeace activists boarded a ship arriving in Britain on Thursday to stop the delivery of more than 1,000 Volkswagen cars from Germany while others sought to immobilise vehicles at a port in anti-diesel protests. VW admitted cheating diesel emissions tests in 2015, triggering political and consumer pressure that has caused a slump in sales of diesel cars in major markets, with governments announcing plans to ban vehicles powered by conventional combustion engines. Greenpeace said its volunteers had boarded the ship in the Thames Estuary in an attempt to stop it unloading at the port of Sheerness in the southeast of England. |

Gear, the co-founder of Virginia Beach's Island Dog Rescue, grew up in the islands. To make this happen, Gear initially aimed to fly 20 animals to the continental U.S. every day for one week, according to The Virginian-Pilot. |

Trudeau confronts Canada's failure of indigenous people in U.N. speech Posted: 21 Sep 2017 01:33 PM PDT Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Thursday admitted Canada had failed its indigenous people and told the United Nations his government would do better to improve the lives of aboriginals and achieve reconciliation. Trudeau used his speech to the U.N. General Assembly to frankly acknowledge the dark history of Canada's colonization as one of "humiliation, neglect and abuse" and promised to do more to help the nation's 1.4 million indigenous people. "We have been working hard ... to correct past injustices and bring about a better quality of life for indigenous peoples in Canada," he said. |

How North Korea Plans to Survive a U.S. Attack Posted: 20 Sep 2017 04:59 PM PDT A so-called preventive military strike would not only fail to resolve the threat to U.S. personnel and U.S. allies, but worsen it. Last Friday National Security Advisor H. R. McMaster emphatically told reporters that despite what many have said to the contrary, "there is a military option" for North Korea. Tuesday afternoon at the United Nations, President Trump went even further, saying that if he felt certain conditions warranted it, then he would have no choice "but to totally destroy North Korea." The president and his national security advisor, however, are wrong. |
Entire towns in Mexico flattened as scale of earthquake damage emerges Posted: 21 Sep 2017 11:17 AM PDT Hopes that rescuers will find more survivors trapped beneath collapsed buildings in central Mexico were fading on Thursday, as the scale of the devastation wreaked by the country's deadliest earthquake for a generation started to become clear. At least 250 people died and 1,900 were injured in the 7.1 magnitude quake which struck Mexico on Tuesday – 32 years to the day after the country's deadliest earthquake killed thousands and laid waste to the capital city. |

Pope candidly admits Church 'arrived late' in confronting abuse Posted: 21 Sep 2017 08:25 AM PDT By Philip Pullella VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - Pope Francis, in some of his most candid and personal comments on the sexual abuse of children by priests, said on Thursday that the Catholic Church had "arrived late" in dealing with the problem. Francis, speaking in unscripted remarks to a commission advising him on how to root out sexual abuse, also acknowledged that early in his papacy he had made one bad call in being too lenient with an Italian priest who later went on to abuse again. Francis surprised members of the commission by putting aside his entire prepared speech and chatting to them. |

Tucker Carlson Had A Witch On His Show. "I think the real problem is not whether or not eye of newt is an actual ingredient," Garcia said. "The real problem is we're about to have some kind of big nuclear extravaganza with North Korea. The real problem is that we're punishing immigrant children. |
Hurricane Maria left over 15 dead in Dominica: prime minister Posted: 21 Sep 2017 12:00 PM PDT Hurricane Maria left more than 15 people dead in hard-hit Dominica, the small Caribbean island's Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit announced on Thursday. The toll from Dominica brings the overall number of confirmed deaths caused by Hurricane Maria to 18, including two in Guadeloupe and one in Puerto Rico. "So far, we would have buried in excess of 15 people," Skerrit told a television network of Antigua and Barbuda, a neighboring country. |
Trump's trashing of Iran deal poses problems for NK strategy Posted: 20 Sep 2017 11:38 AM PDT UNITED NATIONS (AP) — President Donald Trump's threat before the world to obliterate North Korea left no doubt about his determination to stop the communist country's nuclear weapons buildup. His disparagement of the Iran nuclear deal in the same speech offered Pyongyang little hope of a negotiated solution. |
Oil up 2 percent despite U.S. crude build; set for best third quarter since 2004 Posted: 20 Sep 2017 04:50 PM PDT By Julia Simon NEW YORK (Reuters) - Oil prices settled up 2 percent on Wednesday despite a rise in U.S. crude inventories, with the market heading for its largest third-quarter gain in 13 years after the Iraqi oil minister said OPEC and its partners were considering extending or deepening output cuts. Brent crude futures rose $1.06, or 1.9 percent, to $56.20 a barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures gained 93 cents, or 1.9 percent, to $50.41. U.S. crude oil stockpiles jumped last week as imports and production increased, the U.S. Energy Information Administration said, as operations resumed from the impact of Hurricane Harvey which hit the Gulf Coast on Aug. 25. |
Watch moment Russian helicopter 'accidentally fires rockets at bystanders' Posted: 19 Sep 2017 10:37 PM PDT Dramatic video footage has emerged of a helicopter accidentally firing a rocket at bystanders watching Russia's military drills. At least two bystanders were injured and two cars burnt down in the incident that occurred during the Zapad 2017 military exercises, the 66.ru news website reported Tuesday, citing an unidentified source familiar with the situation. According to the Yekaterinburg regional news website 66.ru that first broke the story and published a video of the incident, two military helicopters were chasing a target when one of them accidentally fired air-to-ground rockets at bystanders. The video of the incident, published by 66.ru, depicts a helicopter firing a shot at a man walking near three cars. "[The helicopters] were 500 meters away from the target. They activated the weapon chain, but something malfunctioned, and rockets went down [earlier]," the source told 66.ru and added that two people – "most likely journalists" – were hospitalised with serious injuries. The incident was reported to have taken place at the Luzhski range right outside of St. Petersburg. It remains unclear when it happened, but the 66.ru report suggests that it wasn't long before Russian President Vladimir Putin visited the range on Monday. Later on Tuesday the RBC news outlet reported that the incident happened on September 16, citing an anonymous source close to Russia's Defence Ministry. The source claimed three people got injured in the incident, and none of them were civilians. RBC published another video of the incident, showing the helicopter firing rockets at a military truck parked near three apparent civilian cars. The Defence Ministry refuted claims that the shot was fired at bystanders who were watching the Zapad exercise. The video posted by 66.ru depicts an incident that happened "at a different period of time," during another army aviation exercise, the Ministry spokespeople told RBC. They confirmed the fact that a helicopter accidentally fired a rocket at a parking lot, and said that an empty military truck was damaged as a result. Information about "many people heavily injured" is either "deliberate provocation," or "someone's personal silliness," the Ministry officials said. Zapad 2017 is a large-scale joint military exercise of Russia and Belarus that raised concerns in neighboring European countries as a potential threat to regional security. 12,700 troops are officially said to be participating, together with some 140 tanks, up to 150 artillery and air defence units and more than 40 planes and helicopters. |
