The coalition said it would reopen Hodeida port to receive "urgent humanitarian and relief materials" and Sanaa airport to UN aircraft from midday on Thursday (0900 GMT). Hodeida, which is controlled by Huthi rebels backed by Saudi Arabia's arch-rival Iran, is a key conduit for much-needed food and medicine imports to Yemen.

HMS Protector also began scouring the South Atlantic as part of the international hunt for the missing vessel, and HMS Clyde was being diverted from South Georgia. Argentine officials said naval bases had detected seven incomplete satellite calls over the weekend attributed to the sub and were now trying to use them to pinpoint its location. The communication attempts "indicate that the crew is trying to re-establish contact, so we are working to locate the source of the emissions," the Argentine Navy said on its Twitter account, adding that the calls lasted between four and 36 seconds. An international team of ships and aircraft were braving heavy seas and high winds to search for the German-built ARA San Juan which has been lost since last week. | Robert Mugabe 'guaranteed immunity' according to sources in Zimbabwe Posted: 23 Nov 2017 01:50 PM PST  Zimbabwe's former president Robert Mugabe was granted immunity from prosecution and assured that his safety will be protected in his home country under a deal that led to his resignation, sources close to the negotiations said on Thursday. Mr Mugabe, who had led Zimbabwe from independence in 1980, stepped down on Tuesday after the army seized power and the ruling party turned against him. Emmerson Mnangagwa, the former vice president sacked by Mr Mugabe earlier this month, is set to be sworn in as president on Friday. A government source said Mr Mugabe, who is 93 and was the world's oldest serving head of state, told negotiators he wanted to die in Zimbabwe and had no plans to live in exile. "It was very emotional for him and he was forceful about it," said the source, who is not authorised to speak on the details of the negotiated settlement. "For him it was very important that he be guaranteed security to stay in the country...although that will not stop him from travelling abroad when he wants to or has to." Mr Mugabe resigned as parliament began a process to impeach him, sparking wild celebrations in the streets. His sudden fall after 37 years in power was triggered by a battle to succeed him that pitted Mr Mnangagwa against Mr Mugabe's much younger wife Grace. "The outgoing president is obviously aware of the public hostility to his wife, the anger in some circles about the manner in which she conducted herself and approached ZANU-PF party politics," a second source said. "In that regard, it became necessary to also assure him that his whole family, including the wife, would be safe and secure." Mr Mugabe had clung on to power for a week after the military intervened. He angered many Zimbabweans when he did not resign in a televised address on Sunday as many had anticipated. The government source said the tipping point for Mr Mugabe was the realisation that he would be impeached and ousted in an undignified way. "When the process started, he then realised he had lost the party," the source said. Mr Mugabe will receive a retirement package that includes a pension, housing, holiday and transport allowance, health insurance, limited air travel and security. Timeline Robert Mugabe as leader of Zimbabwe The elderly ex-president was "rugged and drained" by events of the past week and may travel to Singapore for medical checks in the coming weeks, the source said. He had been due to leave for the Southeast Asian country in mid-November before the military put him under house arrest. Mr Mugabe has maintained that he leads a frugal life and that he does not possess any wealth or properties outside Zimbabwe. But last month a legal quarrel between Grace and a Belgian-based businessman over a $1.3 million diamond ring lifted a veil on the wealthy lifestyle of Mugabe and his wife, nicknamed "Gucci Grace" for her reputed dedication to shopping. In Zimbabwe, Mr Mugabe runs a dairy business and the family has several farms while local and foreign media have reported that Grace has bought properties and luxury cars in South Africa.

The move was seen as part of a military campaign to bully the civilian government. Mr Saeed, who was detained nine months ago, allegedly masterminded the 2008 Mumbai massacre in which 166 people were killed. The court rejected a request by the government to extend his arrest, citing a lack of evidence. On Friday, Mr Saeed is expected to walk free. When at liberty, his ability to travel the country and hold large, blood-and-thunder rallies has exasperated allies who believe Pakistan is too soft on terrorism. Mr Saeed held a major rally in Rawalpindi, right next to army headquarters, in 2016, and was present at long series of rallies in 2011. Jamaat-ud-Dawa, the charity led by Mr Saeed which the UN considers a front for terrorism, told the Telegraph it was a triumph for their cause. "This is a victory for the people of Pakistan who support Hafiz Saeed and the Kashmir struggle," a spokesman said. Close relations with Pakistan's army have historically helped to shield Mr Saeed. Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), the militant organisation he founded in the 1980s, has never carried out an attack in the country, focusing instead on India, Kashmir and Afghanistan. The release comes at a feverish, rumour-filled moment in Pakistani politics. In October, the army confirmed plans to "mainstream" extremist groups by encouraging them to enter politics. Two new parties have sprung up recently. One, the Mili Muslim League, considers Mr Saeed its leader. Activists from the other, the Tehreek Labbaik Pakistan, have blockaded Islamabad's main motorway for a fortnight - a brazen act many believe would be impossible without at least tacit support from the army. Mr Saeed's release is "going to give a signal [to Mr Saeed's party] that 'you're guy has been freed'... now put your faith in winning, do more campaigning," said Ayesha Siddiqa, a defence analyst. This, Ms Siddiqa added, will eat into the votes of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz in a 2018 election. Under the leadership of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, who was deposed over the summer in a much criticised ruling by the Supreme Court, the party had threatened military dominance of Pakistan. The justification for the 67-year-old's original arrest was opaque. Some believe it was connected to an investigation, now finished, into Pakistan's compliance with anti-terrorism financing regulations. Trials against Mr Saeed and his alleged accomplices have collapsed in the past for lack of evidence. However, a US-born member of LeT was sentenced to 35 years in American prison for his role in the Mumbai massacre, during which a team of gunmen attacked a railway-station, several hotels and a Jewish cafe over three days.
