Posted: 22 Jun 2012 01:58 PM PDT

FILE - In this April 1, 2012 file photo, House Budget Committee Chairman Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis. speaks in Milwaukee. There are plenty of reasons for Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney to choose Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan as a running mate. The whip-smart congressman is from a battleground state. He's the GOP's leading voice on the nation's budget and is the rare member of the Republican establishment who's loved by the tea party. (AP Photo/Steven Senne, File)Sources tell National Review's Robert Costa that Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan is officially in the running to become Mitt Romney's running mate: I'm reliably informed that Representative Paul Ryan of Wisconsin, the Budget Committee chairman, has submitted paperwork to the Romney campaign. Sources confirm that he is being vetted for the vice-presidential nomination.

I like pieces like Slaughter's. Truism after truism. Good June [...]
