Greece gets ultimatum to avoid euro exit

Posted: 12 Jul 2015 03:47 PM PDT

(L-R) French President Francois Hollande, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and Greek PM Alexis Tsipras confer prior to the start of a Eurozone summit in Brussel on July 12, 2015, though a full 28-nation summit was cancelledHawkish Germany pushed for a Greek "time out" from the euro if leftist Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras fails to agree to tough take-it-or-leave-it terms for a three-year rescue plan worth up to 86 billion euros ($96 billion). Greece said the plans were "very bad", but with its banks set to run dry in days it looked to have little choice but to bow to reform demands that effectively rob Athens of control of much its finances. The dramatic weekend of backroom dealings in Brussels threatened to leave the European Union more divided than at any time in its 50-year history, and by a currency that was meant to bring it together.

The kingpin snuck out of the prison through a subterranean tunnel more than 1.5 km (1 mile) long that ended at an abandoned property near the local town, National Security Commissioner Monte Alejandro Rubido told a news conference on Sunday. Guzman, who had bribed his way out of prison during an escape in 2001, was seen on video entering his shower area at 8:52 p.m. on Saturday (0152 GMT Sunday), then disappeared, the National Security Commission (CNS) said.

Like Andris Garcia, a 22-year-old security guard at the course, many are Latinos, immigrants or descendants of immigrants. "Just because they're Mexican, it doesn't mean that they came over here to sell drugs or kill people." Since announcing his bid for the Republican nomination last month, Trump has faced the fury of Latinos and the cancellation of major business deals after he accused Mexico of sending rapists and other criminals to the United States.

The headquarters of the Bastrop County Republican Party are seen in Bastrop, TexasTo hear the conspiracy theorists tell it, a labyrinth of tunnels is being built under Walmart stores for military attacks on civilians, and an orchestrated financial crisis will lead to martial law, U.S. troops patrolling chaotic streets, and a dictatorship under President Barack Obama. While such views represent the fringes of American political opinion, they reflect a broader suspicion of the federal government that has run deep in Texas for years. The U.S. Army Special Operations Command exercise, called Jade Helm 15, has brought these fears to a crescendo, particularly in Bastrop.
