Paul Ryan ‘just not ready’ to support Donald Trump Posted: 05 May 2016 01:46 PM PDT House Speaker Paul Ryan said Thursday that he is not ready to support presumptive Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. In an appearance on CNN's "The Lead with Jake Tapper," Ryan said he wants to support his party's nominee, but that he simply cannot do so just yet. "I hope to though, and I want to," Ryan said just after 4 p.m. ET. |
White House says Hillary can handle classified briefings. Trump? Eh. Posted: 05 May 2016 02:44 PM PDT Since 1952, the parties' nominees for president have received classified national security briefings. The FBI may be investigating whether Hillary Clinton's private email server arrangement endangered top-secret materials, but the White House is confident she will properly handle any classified information she might get in CIA briefings arranged for the two parties' presidential nominees. Since 1952, the U.S. intelligence community has given classified briefings to the Democratic and Republican nominees. |

A spokeswoman for the local medical examiner's office that conducted a post-mortem examination of Prince declined to confirm the reports. The cause of Prince's death remained undetermined. |
Air strikes on Syria displaced camp kill 28 as Aleppo truce holds Posted: 05 May 2016 04:00 PM PDT Air strikes killed at least 28 civilians Thursday in a camp for the displaced in northern Syria near the Turkish border as a 48-hour ceasefire took hold in Aleppo. The truce came after fierce violence in and around Aleppo and was made possible as President Bashar al-Assad's regime and rebel forces gave in to mounting diplomatic pressure for a pause. |
Ben Sasse: U.S. deserves better than Trump or Clinton Posted: 05 May 2016 08:45 AM PDT Ben Sasse speaks at the American Conservative Union 2016 annual conference in Maryland on March 3, 2016. In a lengthy open letter late Wednesday night, Sen. Ben Sasse, R-Neb., gave voice to the countless Americans who feel frustrated with their likely options for the next commander in chief. "If you are one of those rare souls who genuinely believe Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are honorable people — if they are the role models you want for your kids — then this letter is not for you," he wrote. |
Hillary Clinton won’t call Donald Trump a bigot — but her campaign will Posted: 05 May 2016 07:20 AM PDT In a preview of what could be a six-month-long political tap dance, the Democratic frontrunner is choosing her words about the likely Republican nominee carefully. Her campaign, on the other hand, is not holding back. |

Clinton has the map on her side, but history working against her Posted: 05 May 2016 02:00 AM PDT Hillary Clinton makes a stop at the Lincoln Square pancake house in Indianapolis on May 1. If you want to experience the full-on contempt of the leftist intelligentsia right now, go on social media and suggest, as I did this week, that Donald Trump isn't certain to get crushed in November. The way a lot of partisan Democrats see it, Hillary Clinton — despite a loss to Bernie Sanders in Indiana Tuesday — will soon lock down her party's nomination, and the only way she finds herself even threatened by Trump is if the media decides to legitimize him so we all have something to talk about. |
US bans sale of e-cigarettes to those under 18 Posted: 05 May 2016 03:51 PM PDT The United States Thursday issued a sweeping ban on sales of e-cigarettes, cigars, pipe tobacco and hookahs to those under 18, marking the first time these products have been federally regulated. The ban will go into effect in 90 days, according to the US Food and Drug Administration, which issued the final rule after several years of study and debate. Until now, the marketplace for tobacco products outside of traditional cigarettes has been like "the wild, wild west," said Mitch Zeller, director of the FDA's Center for Tobacco Products. |

Alberta declares emergency as fires threaten Canada oil town Posted: 04 May 2016 10:27 PM PDT Alberta declared a state of emergency Wednesday as crews frantically held back wind-whipped wildfires that have already torched 1,600 homes and other buildings in Canada's main oil sands city of Fort McMurray, forcing more than 80,000 residents to flee. Alberta Premier Rachel Notley said fire had destroyed or damaged an estimated 1,600 structures. Flames are being kept from the downtown area thanks to the "herculean'" efforts of firefighters, said Scott Long of the Alberta Emergency Management Agency. |
