Iran nuclear deal possible next week, says U.S. official Posted: 15 Nov 2013 04:33 PM PST By Lesley Wroughton WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Major powers and Iran are getting closer to an initial agreement to curb Iran's nuclear program, a senior U.S. official said on Friday, adding it is "quite possible" a deal could be reached when negotiators meet November 20-22 in Geneva. The official said EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton and Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif were to meet on November 20 in Geneva. The talks will seek to finalize an interim deal to allow time to negotiate a comprehensive, permanent agreement with Iran that would end a 10-year deadlock and provide assurances to the six powers that its atomic program would not produce bombs. Iran has denied that it is seeking the capability to produce atomic weapons and insists its nuclear ambitions are limited to the peaceful generation of electricity and other civilian uses. |

The death of Renisha McBride, 19, sparked protests and comparisons to Trayvon Martin, the black teenager whose killing last year at the hands of a neighborhood watch volunteer in Florida provoked a national debate on racism and 'stand your ground' self-defense laws. Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy insisted she was not influenced by the protests. Attorney General Eric Holder said on Friday that if the 1988 Undetectable Firearms Act is allowed to end, plastic guns made with the fast-evolving 3D printing technology could be smuggled more easily. "This is a very worrisome threat to law enforcement and to people who fly every day. We can't have guns legally in circulation that are not detectable by metal detectors," Holder said in a statement. |
