(Reuters) - A car sought in connection with a suspected threat against President Barack Obama has been located in Connecticut, authorities said on Saturday. Secret Service, which is responsible for presidential security, had asked state police for help in locating the car in connection with a possible threat to the president, State Police Lieutenant J. Paul Vance said. Both the state police and the Secret Service declined to specify the nature of the threat. The Secret Service, in a statement on Saturday, said that it had investigated information about a suspicious person and vehicle and was working to determine its validity. |
F-16s dispatched for unresponsive pilot of small plane near D.C. Posted: 30 Aug 2014 04:33 PM PDT (Reuters) - Two F-16 fighter jets were dispatched to check on a small plane that entered restricted airspace around Washington, D.C., on Saturday, and the fighter pilots observed the person at the controls to be unconscious before the plane ran out of fuel and crashed into the Atlantic Ocean, officials said. The pilot of the Cirrus SR22 propeller plane took off from Waukesha County Airport in Wisconsin and had been destined for Manassas Regional Airport in Virginia, the Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement. Coast Guard said in a statement. The pilot had stopped responding to radio calls. |

Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson shot the 18-year-old Brown on Aug. 9. For days after the shooting, police and demonstrators in Ferguson clashed nightly, with authorities coming under fire for mass arrests and what critics said were the use of heavy-handed tactics and military gear. |

The 24-year-old, a standout with the University of Missouri who had announced he was gay in February, was one of 22 players cut in final roster moves by the Rams to reach the limit before the NFL's 4 p.m. ET deadline on Saturday. The journey continues." Rams coach Jeff Fisher, who spoke to Sam by phone before the final roster moves were announced, said it had simply been "a football decision" to cut the defensive end. |

Islamic State militants behead captive Lebanese soldier: video Posted: 30 Aug 2014 03:09 PM PDT Islamic State militants beheaded a Lebanese soldier who was one of 19 captured by hardline Syrian Islamists when they seized a Lebanese border town for a few days this month, a video posted on social media showed on Saturday. The soldier, recognizable as Ali al-Sayyed, a Sunni Muslim from north Lebanon, was shown blindfolded with his hands tied behind his back, writhing and kicking the dusty ground while a militant announces he will be killed. Islamic State, which declared a "caliphate" in June in parts of Iraq and Syria under its control, has been cited as a major security threat by Western governments since posting a video in August of the beheading of U.S journalist James Foley. The Lebanese army declined to comment, but security and Islamic State sources confirmed the latest beheading. |

Fears are growing that the confrontation on the EU's eastern borders could engulf the whole continent after Russia sent troops to back a new offensive by pro-Kremlin rebels in southeastern Ukraine.
