Los Angeles bracing for 'Carmageddon 2' Posted: 28 Sep 2012 12:49 PM PDT LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Car-crazed Los Angeles is preparing for a weekend of potential traffic gridlock that has earned the nickname "Carmageddon 2" amid fears drivers might not heed warnings to stay off the roads during a massive 53-hour freeway closure. Warnings of nightmare jams last year in a phase of the same road-closing construction project kept so many people home that apocalyptic predictions of "Carmageddon" failed to materialize. "Carmageddon, Schmarmageddon," Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky said last year, after the 42-hour 405 Freeway shutdown was over. ... |

Photos: Voters' signs do the talking for them Posted: 28 Sep 2012 10:00 AM PDT By Phillip Jackson, Phoenix Every American knows the economy tanked before President Obama took office. When he took office, I had already explored refinancing my home mortgage that was about $60,000 under water, but I could not since no government programs existed. Obama came to Phoenix and introduced the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 in February. I looked into the act to see if I could refinance and regain some of the lost funds. However, because I was current on my mortgage note, I could not apply, and ended up selling my home for $110,000 less than I bought it. Is this fair to the hard working people of America that don't ask for government hand-outs or use their union power to ask for a 4 percent raise when the rest of us are struggling? I didn't think so. It's time for a change this November. |

Hikers warned about murder suspect loose in NY state park Posted: 28 Sep 2012 12:43 PM PDT NEW YORK (Reuters) - Hikers were being urged to steer clear of a popular New York state park for the weekend while police search for a man suspected of shooting his daughter-in-law and believed to be armed and hiding in the thickly wooded area.
