IS suicide bomber attacks Saudi Shiite mosque, killing 21 Posted: 22 May 2015 02:47 PM PDT An Islamic State group suicide bomber attacked a Shiite mosque in Sunni-ruled Saudi Arabia on Friday, killing 21 people and wounding 81 in an assault that threatens to fan sectarian tensions. The bomber struck during the main weekly prayers in Eastern Province, where assailants linked to the Sunni extremist IS killed seven members of the minority Shiite community in November. The interior ministry said a suicide bomber detonated a bomb at the mosque in Kudeih, in the Shiite-majority city of Qatif, the official SPA news agency reported. |

After 15 hours of voting, the ballot boxes were sealed at 10:00pm (2100 GMT) across the republic, with polling stations reporting higher-than-expected voter numbers. State broadcaster RTE said polling stations were recording a higher turnout than usual for referendums, with voting levels in cities such as Dublin, Limerick and Waterford predicted to top 60 percent. |
Magnitude 5.3 quake hits Nevada, close to Las Vegas Posted: 22 May 2015 01:48 PM PDT A magnitude 5.3 earthquake struck Nevada on Friday close to the small town of Caliente, northeast of the tourist hub of Las Vegas, and was followed by a series of smaller aftershocks, the U.S. Geological Survey said. It said the epicenter of the initial quake, which was very shallow at a depth of only 2.5 miles(4 km), was 24 miles (39 km)from Caliente, a town of just over 1,000 people, close to the border with Utah. A dispatcher with the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department, near the epicenter, said the earthquake had been felt widely across the county, but that there were no immediate reports of damage. |

(Reuters) - Five people accused of stealing and selling more than $100,000 worth of expensive bourbons and other whiskeys as part of a years-long conspiracy pleaded not guilty on Friday in a Kentucky court. Gilbert "Toby" Curtsinger, a former worker at the Buffalo Trace distillery in Frankfort, denied charges that he organized the theft of barrels and bottles from Buffalo Trace and the Wild Turkey distilleries. Acting on a tip, Franklin County Sheriff's officers discovered stolen barrels behind a shed on Curtsinger's property, prosecutors said. |
