Hollande and Obama vow unity against IS, appeal to Russia Posted: 24 Nov 2015 03:15 PM PST France and the United States pledged Tuesday to step up the fight against the Islamic State group, urging Russia to throw its weight behind global efforts to resolve the four-year Syrian conflict. President Francois Hollande met his US counterpart Barack Obama at the White House as Turkey's downing of a Russian warplane dealt a severe blow to efforts to coordinate the fight against IS. Speaking 11 days after jihadists killed 130 people in the French capital, Hollande urged an "implacable" joint response to crush the group in Syria and Iraq. |

Five charged in $600 million California health care fraud scheme Posted: 24 Nov 2015 03:48 PM PST By Dan Whitcomb LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The former chief financial officer of a California hospital and four other people have been charged in a series of health care kickback schemes that generated nearly $600 million in fraudulent billings for spinal surgeries, prosecutors said on Tuesday. All five defendants have agreed to cooperate in a wide-ranging federal investigation into the fraud, dubbed "Operation Spinal Cap", U.S. Attorney's spokesman Thom Mrozek said, and two have already pleaded guilty to federal charges. Prosecutors say one of the schemes involved kickbacks and fraudulent claims submitted in thousands of spinal surgery cases referred to Pacific Hospital in the Los Angeles suburb of Long Beach. |
