What Obama Says Is His 'Worst Mistake' as President Posted: 10 Apr 2016 02:30 PM PDT Both Obama and then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton continue to argue that it wasn't the removal of Gaddafi that caused the chaos, but rather the failure to prop up a stable government in the days following. Embattled Ukraine PM Yatsenyuk resigns Posted: 10 Apr 2016 10:25 AM PDT Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk announced his resignation Sunday in the wake of a months-long political crisis that has paralysed the government and frozen the release of vital Western aid. Parliament is expected to approve Yatsenyuk's resignation on Tuesday and start crafting a new pro-European government that is likely to continue pulling the former Soviet country out of Russia's orbit and toward the West. "Having done everything to ensure stability and make a smooth transition of power possible, I decided to step down from the post of prime minister of Ukraine," the 41-year said in a weekly television address. |

Kerry in Japan for landmark Hiroshima visit Posted: 10 Apr 2016 09:57 AM PDT G7 foreign ministers on Sunday began two days of talks in Hiroshima, with John Kerry's visit to the atom-bombed city -- the first-ever by a US secretary of state -- overshadowing the broader agenda. Kerry's landmark trip is seen as possibly paving the way for Barack Obama to become the first serving US president to visit the thriving metropolis next month, when he comes to Japan for a Group of Seven summit. The meeting which started Sunday also includes top diplomats from nuclear-armed Britain and France, as well as Canada, Germany, Italy, host Japan and the European Union. |
