Man Who Reportedly Gave Hunter’s Laptop to Rudy Speaks Out in Bizarre Interview Posted: 14 Oct 2020 12:52 PM PDT On Wednesday morning, the New York Post published a story alleging that Hunter Biden dropped off a laptop at a Delaware computer store for repair and that the device contained nefarious emails and photos. The item was immediately viewed with suspicion, both for the timing of it—coming less than three weeks before the elections—and the path the laptop supposedly took. The Post said that "before turning over the gear," the owner of the computer repair shop, "made a copy of the hard drive and later gave it to former Mayor Rudy Giuliani's lawyer, Robert Costello." The story alleged that the Biden son was setting up a meeting between a top executive at a Ukrainian energy firm on which he served and his father, who was then the Vice President. The Biden campaign has said no such meeting was scheduled. On Wednesday afternoon, a group of reporters, among them a journalist for The Daily Beast, spoke with the owner of the shop, a man named John Paul Mac Isaac who lives in Wilmington, Delaware. The audio of that nearly hour-long question and answer session is below.rptrbnd · Mac Shop 10 - 14 - CmMac Isaac appeared nervous throughout. Several times, he said he was scared for his life and for the lives of those he loved. He appeared not to have a grasp on the timeline of the laptop arriving at his shop and its disappearance from it. He also said the impeachment of President Trump was a "sham." Social media postings indicate that Mac Isaac is an avid Trump supporter, and voted for him in the 2016 election.Mac Isaac said he had a medical condition that prevented him from actually seeing who dropped off the laptop but that he believed it to be Hunter Biden's because of a sticker related to the Beau Biden Foundation that was on it. He said that Hunter Biden actually dropped off three laptops for repair, an abundance of hardware that he chalked up to the Biden son being "rich."Throughout the entire interview, Mac Isaac switched back and forth from saying he reached out to law enforcement after viewing the files in the laptop to saying that it was actually the Federal Bureau of Investigation that reached out to him. At one point, Mac Isaac claimed that he was emailing someone from the FBI about the laptop. At another point he claimed a special agent from the Baltimore office had contacted him after he alerted the FBI to the device's existence. At another point, he said the FBI reached out to him for "help accessing his drive."Mac Isaac referenced the infamous Seth Rich conspiracy theory—which holds that a DNC staffer who police say was murdered in a botched robbery was actually killed off by Clinton allies because he leaked committee emails—as reason for his paranoia. He said he made a copy of the hard drive for purposes of personal protection."They probably knew I had a copy because I was pretty vocal about not wanting to get murdered," he said, "so I'm going to have a copy."Mac Isaac refused to answer specific questions about whether he had been in contact with Rudy Giuliani before the laptop drop-off or at any other time before the Post's publication. Pressed on his relationship with Giuliani, he replied: "When you're afraid and you don't know anything about the depth of the waters that you're in, you want to find a lifeguard."Seeming to realize he'd said too much, he added: "Ah shit."So, Rudy was your lifeguard, the reporters asked. "No comment," he replied.Read more at The Daily Beast.Get our top stories in your inbox every day. Sign up now!Daily Beast Membership: Beast Inside goes deeper on the stories that matter to you. Posted: 13 Oct 2020 06:59 AM PDT Sen. Lindsey Graham's (R-S.C.) faltering campaign finances are clearly weighing on him.As Senate Judiciary Committee chair, Graham was in charge of leading the first day of questioning in Amy Coney Barrett's Supreme Court confirmation hearing on Tuesday. But within his first few minutes of speaking, Graham already brought up an issue that admittedly had nothing to do with Barrett: his Senate opponent's massive fundraising haul.Over the weekend, Democrat Jaime Harrison announced he'd raised an overwhelming $57 million in the third quarter of this year as he seeks to unseat Graham. That was easily the largest single-quarter Senate fundraising gain in history, and it's clearly weighing on Graham's mind. After predicting Monday that Harrison's haul might spark a "backlash" from South Carolinians who think he's "trying to buy the state," Graham took a different approach to the issue during Barrett's hearing. He brought up the Citizens United Supreme Court case that okayed massive corporate donations to candidates, and then addressed Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), who is staunchly opposed to the Citizens United decision. "Me and you are going to get closer and closer on regulating money," Graham said, because "I can tell you there is a lot of money being raised in this campaign and I'd like to know where the hell some of it's coming from." > Sen. Judiciary Chair Lindsey Graham uses his time to talk about his own race through a Citizens United question: "I can tell you there is a lot of money being raised in this campaign. I'd like to know where the hell some of it's coming from. Mexican president's anti-corruption drive buffeted by scandals Posted: 14 Oct 2020 04:03 AM PDT Three months after taking charge of a new office created by President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador to compensate Mexicans for years of public sector embezzlement, its director quit, complaining the organization was tainted by corruption. The blow to the Institute for Returning to the People What Was Stolen (INDEP) is one of several recent cases to blot Lopez Obrador's image and undercut the message that his December 2018 investiture marked a sea change for a country awash in graft. On Sept. 22, INDEP director Jaime Cardenas submitted his letter of resignation, raising concerns over alleged misuse of proceeds from auctions of stolen assets, and the suspected theft of diamonds, emeralds and sapphires from the institute. |
Cuomo Says ‘Religious Practices’ of Orthodox Jews Causing Virus to Spread in New York City Posted: 14 Oct 2020 10:09 AM PDT New York Governor Andrew Cuomo on Wednesday singled out the "religious practices" of Orthodox Jews as the cause of renewed spread of the coronavirus in New York City."We're now having issues in the Orthodox Jewish community in New York, where because of their religious practices, etc., we're seeing a spread," Cuomo said.Last week, Orthodox Jewish leaders vehemently criticized Cuomo and took to the streets of Brooklyn to protest the governor's new coronavirus restrictions on schools, businesses, and houses of worship. The restrictions would shutter schools, non-essential businesses, and strictly limit the number of congregants allowed in houses of worship, in some areas allowing only ten worshippers at a time. Many of the Brooklyn and Queens "red zones" designated for the new restrictions are Orthodox Jewish neighborhoods."We are appalled by Governor Cuomo's words and actions today," read a letter from four Orthodox Jewish lawmakers who represent the neighborhoods affected by the new restrictions. "He has chosen to pursue a scientifically and constitutionally questionable shutdown of our communities."During a protest in Borough Park, demonstrators lit at least one fire in the street, and activist Harold "Heshy" Tischler was charged in an alleged attack on an Orthodox Jewish reporter who was targeted by the crowd during the protest.Cuomo blamed the growing frustration on the failure of communities to follow the state's previous restrictions, allowing the virus to spread."To the extent there are communities that are upset, that's because they haven't been following the original rules," Cuomo said. "That's why the infection spread, because they weren't following the rules and the rules weren't being enforced."Coronavirus hospitalizations spiked Wednesday from 705 to 748 patients, Cuomo said. The coronavirus outbreak in New York is entering a "new phase," the governor said, specifically "mini clusters" across the state that spring from a single event, such as a party or bar that did not observe social distancing rules."This is not going away anytime soon," Cuomo said. "Best case scenario, we're looking at another year … even if everything works out well." |

U.S. slams Turkey's renewed seismic survey push in eastern Mediterranean Posted: 13 Oct 2020 05:41 AM PDT The United States on Tuesday slammed Turkey's renewed push to send a vessel to carry out seismic surveys in the eastern Mediterranean, accusing Ankara of unilaterally stoking tensions and "deliberately" complicating the resumption of talks with Greece. "The United States deplores Turkey's October 11 announcement of renewed Turkish survey activity in areas over which Greece asserts jurisdiction in the eastern Mediterranean," State Department spokeswoman Morgan Ortagus said in a statement while urging Ankara to cease its survey activities. Tensions in the eastern Mediterranean have risen over claims and counter claims pitting Turkey against Greece and Cyprus to maritime areas thought to be rich in natural gas. |

Jesse Katayama's entry into the ruins came thanks to a special request he submitted while stranded since mid-March in the town of Aguas Calientes, on the slopes of the mountains near the site, said Minister of Culture Alejandro Neyra on Monday. "He had come to Peru with the dream of being able to enter," Neyra said in a virtual press conference. |

Posted: 13 Oct 2020 06:41 AM PDT A judge weighing whether to unseal sworn testimony given by Ghislaine Maxwell, a longtime associate of the late disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein, has suggested that the socialite "may be a victim too." The British heiress is urging a panel of judges in a federal appeals court in New York to overturn a lower court decision ruling to make public the documents, which Maxwell claims will jeopardise her ability to defend against criminal charges she enabled Epstein's sexual abuse of girls. Ms Maxwell, 58, who is currently in a Brooklyn prison awaiting trial, has pleaded not guilty to charges she helped the billionaire recruit and groom underage girls as young as 14 years old to engage in illegal sexual acts in the mid-1990s. The evidence in question relates to a deposition she gave in 2016 in a civil case brought by Epstein victim Virginia Roberts Giuffre, who says the late billionaire forced her to have sex with Prince Andrew, and others, when she was 17. The Duke of York denies all allegations. |

The government aims to get vaccines to all Filipinos, which Duterte said now number around 113 million, but priority will be given to the poor, the police and military personnel. "All should have the vaccine without exception," Duterte said in a late-night televised address. |

Anger in the Philippines as 'political prisoner' denied the right to hold her dying baby Posted: 13 Oct 2020 10:36 PM PDT The harsh treatment of a young human rights worker whose newborn baby died while she was in jail on what her supporters claim are trumped up charges has sparked widespread anger in the Philippines. River, the three-month-old daughter of Reina Mae Nasino, tragically died of pneumonia just weeks after she was torn from her inconsolable mother despite a concerted campaign to keep the pair together and allow the infant to be nurtured and breastfed. The controversy has gripped a country where the contrast of the alleged VIP treatment of rich and well-connected prison inmates has already sparked deep-seated resentment within the general population. Ms Nasino, 23, who worked for the urban poverty group Kadamay, was arrested in November 2019 during a mass crackdown by President Rodrigo Duterte's administration on dozens of Left-leaning activists. She and two colleagues in the same office were charged with the illegal possession of firearms and explosives, which all three denied and said were planted by the authorities as a pretext to jail them. |
