Seas to rise about a meter even if climate goals are met - studyBy Alister Doyle OSLO (Reuters) - Sea levels will rise between 0.7 and 1.2 meters (27-47 inches) in the next two centuries even if governments end the fossil fuel era as promised under the Paris climate agreement, scientists said on Tuesday. Early action to cut greenhouse gas emissions would limit the long-term rise, driven by a thaw of ice from Greenland to Antarctica that will re-draw global coastlines, a German-led team wrote in the journal Nature Communications. Sea level rise is a threat to cities from Shanghai to London, to low-lying swathes of Florida or Bangladesh, and to entire nations such as the Maldives in the Indian Ocean or Kiribati in the Pacific.

Republicans will sue to block court-drawn Pennsylvania congressional mapState and national Republican officials will file a federal lawsuit as soon as Wednesday seeking to block a new Pennsylvania congressional map released on Monday by the state's high court, the party's congressional campaign arm said on Tuesday. The new map would give Democrats better odds of capturing as many as half a dozen U.S. House of Representatives seats in Pennsylvania, where Republicans currently hold 13 of the 18 seats. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court drew a new map for the state's 18 congressional districts after previously invalidating the existing lines as an unconstitutional gerrymander, finding the Republican-controlled legislature drew them to marginalize Democratic voters.

Watch Billionaire Bill Gates try to guess the prices of normal people groceries

Posted: 21 Feb 2018 11:47 AM PST

Watch Billionaire Bill Gates try to guess the prices of normal people groceriesBillionaire Bill Gates would probably be great on a show where he guessed the prices of real estate and yachts. Groceries for norms? Not so much. Gates appeared on The Ellen Show on Wednesday, where host and millionaire of the people, Ellen DeGeneres, decided to quiz the tech mogul The Price is Right style . In a segment called "Bill's Grocery Bills," Degeneres had Gates guess the price of everyday objects from the grocery store.  If Gates successfully guesses the price (within a range of $1) of three out of the five products, the audience wins a prize.   For what it's worth, Gates couldn't even recall the last time he stepped foot in a grocery store, but his performance is less than stellar. Gates thought cheap stuff, like Rice-A-Roni and Totino's Pizza Rolls were way more expensive than they actually are, and guessed expensive items, like Tide Pods, are way cheaper than their $19.97 price tag.  It's fun to rip on out-of-touch-billionaire Gates for not knowing how expensive normal people stuff costs, but if you were a billionaire, would you go grocery shopping?  With a little help, the audience was able to secure the prize, which was to return to the show for Ellen's 12 Days of Giveaways. Thanks, Bill.
