WikiLeaks dumps data from Sony hacking scandal Posted: 16 Apr 2015 03:25 PM PDT WikiLeaks published thousands of documents on Thursday from last year's Sony hacking scandal, calling them an insight into the inner workings of a "secretive" firm. The website said the searchable data dump includes 30,287 documents from the US-based Sony Pictures Entertainment and 173,132 emails to and from more than 2,200 company email addresses. The same data was released online after hackers attacked Sony Pictures last November and threatened the company over the release of the comedy film "The Interview," which depicts a fictional CIA plot to kill North Korea's leader. The threats saw Sony cancel the public debut of the movie and led to the resignation of chairperson Amy Pascal. |

Abdirahman Sheik Mohamud, 23, a naturalized American, had been instructed by a Muslim cleric to return to the United States and carry out an act of terrorism, a federal indictment said. The indictment said Mohamud told an associate that he wanted to go to a military base in Texas and "kill three or four American soldiers execution-style." Mohamud's brother was killed fighting with the Nusra Front, the Syria-based affiliate of al Qaeda, the indictment said. |

U.S. objects to Boston bomber's lawyers' call to 'look deep inside' Posted: 16 Apr 2015 02:19 PM PDT By Scott Malone BOSTON (Reuters) - Federal prosecutors on Thursday objected to what they said was a call by lawyers for Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev that jurors "look deep inside" themselves when considering whether they believe the testimony of foreign witnesses. In a filing in Boston federal court, prosecutors said they objected to what they said was the defense's request that U.S. District Judge George O'Toole instruct the jurors to consider whether they are naturally prejudiced in favor of "people like themselves" and if they tend to discredit the testimony of foreign witnesses. Both prosecutors and defense witnesses are set to begin calling another round of witnesses, with the trial's sentencing phase expected to take four weeks before the jury begins deliberations on Tsarnaev's fate. |
White House mum on DEA chief after sex party scandal Posted: 16 Apr 2015 11:30 AM PDT The White House sidestepped questions on Thursday about whether President Barack Obama retains confidence in the chief of the Drug Enforcement Administration after an investigation found DEA agents took part in sex parties with prostitutes in Colombia. The Justice Department's internal watchdog found that 10 DEA agents participated in the parties, paid for by drug cartels. A bipartisan group of lawmakers in the House of Representatives have said they have lost confidence in DEA chief Michele Leonhart. Asked twice by reporters at a briefing whether Obama still has confidence in Leonhart, White House spokesman Josh Earnest said Obama "has very high expectations for everybody who serves in this administration." "We do have concerns about what's been reported by the Office of the Inspector General," Earnest said, referring to the internal watchdog that detailed the allegations. |
