FBI ends search of lake for clues in San Bernardino attack Posted: 13 Dec 2015 04:15 PM PST By Brendan O'Brien and Eric M. Johnson (Reuters) - FBI divers wrapped up a three-day search of a California lake where authorities suspect a couple inspired by Islamic State may have dumped evidence linked to their massacre of 14 people, an official said on Sunday, adding the team retrieved some objects. The search at the lake in a public park 2.5 miles (4 km) north of the site of the Dec. 2 shooting at a regional center in San Bernardino, began on Thursday after reports the suspects were spotted nearby either before or after the attack. ABC News and other news organizations had reported that the divers at San Bernardino Lake were looking for a computer hard drive that belonged to the married couple, Syed Rizwan Farook, 28, and Tashfeen Malik, 29. |

County sheriff vows thorough probe into shooting of black man Posted: 13 Dec 2015 01:25 PM PST Two unidentified Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputies on Saturday killed Nicholas Robertson, a 28-year-old black man, in Lynwood, outside the city of Los Angeles, the sheriff's department said. "We understand the significant community concern anytime the police are involved in the use of deadly force," county sheriff Jim McDonnell said at a news conference. Deputies responded after receiving several 911 calls about shots fired in the area, said Steven Katz, an official with the sheriff's homicide division said at the same news conference. |
Trump's name restored at Dubai golf complex Posted: 13 Dec 2015 01:22 AM PST A Dubai real estate firm has restored Donald Trump's name on a $6 billion golf complex it is building with the U.S. businessman and presidential hopeful, days after taking it down following his proposal to ban Muslims from entering the United States. Gold letters spelling out "Trump International Golf Club," affixed to a landscaped stone wall at the entrance to the golf complex being built by DAMAC Properties, were removed on Thursday, according to a Reuters photographer. Trump's comments provoked a backlash in the Gulf, where he has said he would like to expand business, and one of the region's biggest retail groups, Landmark, said it was pulling Trump merchandise off its shelves. |

'Proud' women win seats in historic Saudi vote Posted: 13 Dec 2015 01:19 PM PST At least 14 women won municipal council seats in Saudi Arabia's first ever election open to female voters and candidates, officials said Sunday, far exceeding expectations in the ultra-conservative kingdom. Honestly, we weren't expecting anyone to win," said Sahar Hassan Nasief, a women's rights activist in the Red Sea city of Jeddah. "We need more," said Aljazi al-Hossaini, who was defeated in Diriyah on the edge of Riyadh, where three women won seats, according to Saudi news channel Al-Ekhbaria. |
