Nearly 1,000 'security risks' denied entry to France since Paris attacks Posted: 27 Nov 2015 04:21 PM PST Nearly 1,000 people thought to pose security risks have been denied entry into France since stepped-up border controls were imposed ahead of the COP21 climate talks on November 13, just hours before the Paris attacks, the interior minister said Saturday. The aim of the boosted controls is to enable the authorities to reinforce security as the COP21 climate talks officially get under way in Paris on Monday and also to confront the high terrorist threat level facing the country, Cazeneuve said, adding that they would make any necessary arrests. |

Suspect in Colorado clinic shooting had past brushes with the law Posted: 28 Nov 2015 01:31 PM PST By Keith Coffman COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Reuters) - The 57-year-old man with a bushy white beard who is suspected of killing three people in a shooting rampage at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado has a history of brushes with the law, including a "peeping Tom" complaint in his home state of South Carolina. Robert Lewis Dear, named as the suspect in the Friday shooting in Colorado Springs, was in jail on Saturday awaiting an initial hearing on Monday, police and jail records showed. Police have not discussed a motive for the attack at the clinic, which offers a range of health services, including abortions. |
Rain, ice storms batter central U.S., deaths in Texas, Kansas Posted: 28 Nov 2015 02:41 PM PST By Karen Brooks AUSTIN, Texas (Reuters) - Flooding and travel delays were expected from Texas to Kentucky during for the rest of U.S. holiday weekend, forecasters and law enforcement authorities said on Saturday, as bad weather was blamed for deaths on icy and flooded roads. An ice storm stretching from New Mexico through West Texas and Oklahoma and up to Kansas City left tens of thousands of people without power and there were at least four deaths on icy roads in Kansas. Moisture from Tropical Storm Sandra and the Gulf of Mexico brought record-breaking rain and flooding to the Dallas-Fort Worth region over the Thanksgiving holiday. |
Obama says U.S. has to 'do something' about guns after Colorado shooting Posted: 28 Nov 2015 07:57 AM PST Expressing what has become regularly repeated frustration on the issue, President Barack Obama said on Saturday the United States needs to "do something" to make it harder for criminals to get guns after a shooting in Colorado killed three people and injured nine. In Friday's shooting, an assailant opened fire at a Planned Parenthood clinic, a center that provides health services including abortions, in Colorado Springs. It was the latest in a long series of U.S. mass shootings during Obama's seven years in office. |
