Germany to cut diplomatic mission in North Korea Posted: 30 Nov 2017 02:45 PM PST Germany will reduce its diplomatic mission in Pyongyang and require North Korea to shrink its presence in Berlin, Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel said Thursday after meeting his US counterpart. US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson welcomed Gabriel to the State Department as Washington is turning up the pressure on its allies to do more to isolate Kim Jong-Un's defiant nuclear-armed regime. "We have already reduced our embassy staff in North Korea and will do so once more," Gabriel told reporters afterwards, adding that two diplomats have been withdrawn and one more will follow. |

‘Bully’ who sucker-punched man with cerebral palsy sentenced to prison Posted: 30 Nov 2017 08:24 AM PST The tears Barry Robert Baker Jr shed in court as he begged for mercy on Wednesday did nothing to change what the judge thought of him. You are a predator," said Judge William P Mahon, of the Court of Common Pleas in Chester County, Pennsylvania, according to the Daily Local News. For his crimes - assault and fleeing authorities - the state generally recommends between three and 14 months in prison, with six months probation. |

Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy declines release from jail during trial Posted: 30 Nov 2017 04:11 AM PST Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy won a court order releasing him from jail to home confinement for the duration of his federal conspiracy and assault trial in Las Vegas, but he has opted to remain locked up on principle, his attorney said on Wednesday. U.S. District Judge Gloria Navarro has ruled that the 71-year-old cattleman and three others on trial with him, including sons Ammon and Ryan Bundy, may remain essentially under house arrest, rather than behind bars, while the case proceeds in court. Ryan Bundy had already been released from jail to a halfway house earlier this month before he was permitted transfer to detention in the home of a court-approved host for the rest of the trial, which is expected to run through February. |

Libya allows emergency migrant 'evacuations' after slavery uproar Posted: 29 Nov 2017 04:21 PM PST Libya agreed Wednesday with key EU and African leaders to allow migrants facing abuse in detention camps to be evacuated within days or weeks, mostly to their home countries, French President Emmanuel Macron said. The decision was taken after Ivory Coast President Alassane Ouattara called for "all urgent measures" to end slave trading and other migrant abuses in Libya at an EU-Africa summit in Abidjan. The leaders of Libya, France, Germany, Chad, Niger and four other countries "decided on an extreme emergency operation to evacuate from Libya those who want to be," Macron told reporters after their emergency talks on the summit sidelines. |
Posted: 30 Nov 2017 01:14 AM PST The co-author of Donald Trump's memoir The Art of the Deal has claimed White House aides are "terrified" over the President's mental health. Tony Schwartz, who shadowed and interviewed Mr Trump over an 18 month period in the 1980s, has been a fierce critic of the 71-year-old since he took office in January. Speaking to MSNBC, Mr Schwartz suggested Mr Trump was "deeply mentally ill" and "no longer connected to reality" following reports the billionaire has been peddling a series of conspiracy theories during private conversations. |

China's New J-16D Aircraft Might Have a Terrifying New Military Capability Posted: 30 Nov 2017 04:20 AM PST The United States Navy's EA-18G Growler electronic attack fighters are one of a small number of military aircraft types dedicated to the task of jamming—and potentially destroying—hostile radars that could guide deadly surface-to-air missiles against friendly aircraft. This mission is known as Suppression of Enemy Air Defenses (SEAD). Basically, if a modern air force wants to attack an adversary with significant antiaircraft defenses, it needs an effective SEAD game to avoid insupportable losses. |
